Computer Gaming & Simulation Program Wins Multiple $4,000 Awards
Students in MC's Gaming and Simulation Program (www.studygaming.com), under the guidance of Professor Deborah Solomon, will receive $4,000 a semester over two years through a special contract award to develop an educational game for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The team is creating a game that will educate students in Grades 6-8 about the importance of estuary (water) environments.
The game features characters and an in-depth storyline about Valerie, a young girl, and her friends from the estuary (an otter, a clam, and a giant turtle). Players will learn about trash disposal and recycling, clearing water blockades, and improving water quality.
The project is looking for additional animators and programmers. If you know any students with Flash or ActionScript skills, ask them to contact Professor Solomon at deborah.solomon@montgomerycollege.edu.
