The Montgomery College women's soccer team alongside head coach Kelly Wakeman were recently recognized by County Executive Ike Leggett for earning national recognition for accomplishments during its 2011 season.
On Monday, January 30 the county executive invited the team and coaching staff to attend a special proclamation ceremony at the County Executive Office Building. During the ceremony he recognized the team for winning Montgomery College's first NJCAA Division III national title and finishing the season number one in the division poll with a 17-3 record. He touted teammates Sonia Basma for earning the tournament's Most Valuable Player honor, Anna Bolanos for receiving the Top Offensive Player award, and Tina Ramirez de Arellano for being named the Top Defensive Player. In addition he noted that players Julia Menijzar, Barbara Monsky, and Tiffany Wilson were named to the All-tournament Team.
He also commended Coach Wakeman for being named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.
