Call for Volunteers!
The Office of the Senior Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Student Services is seeking members of the Montgomery College community to assist us in the STAR (Stand Tall And Reach) Scholarship selection process. The STAR Scholarship program, established by one of the College's major benefactors, Mr. Paul Peck, showcases outstanding African American and black high school students (ninth-eleventh grade) from the Montgomery County Public School System who excel academically and contribute to their communities. On April 23, 25, 26, 30, May 2 and 3 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. we will interview several hundred applicants to determine who will be awarded Certificates of Merit, $250 scholarships, and $1,000 scholarships. Interviews will be held in the Mannakee Building.
We are in need of faculty and staff volunteers to serve as interviewers for this fine scholarship program.
If you are interested in interviewing promising young students, and can be available on one or more of the evenings noted above, please contact Dr. Debra Bright at debra.bright@montgomerycollege.edu or Ms. Elizabeth (Diane) Woods at elizabeth.woods@montgomerycollege.edu. Please note your availability (desired interview day and time slot) in your email message.
This is an important initiative representing the liaison among MC, MCPS, and dedicated community members. We appreciate your consideration and are anxious to hear from you soon!
