In celebration of Arab American Heritage Month at Montgomery College, please join us on Wednesday, April 18 at 1 p.m. in the Technical Center Building (TC), Room 231 on the Rockville Campus for a talk and discussion about "Youth and Women's Leadership, New Media and the Arab Spring", with a guest speaker, Dr. Sahar Khamis of The University of Maryland.

About the Guest Speaker:
Sahar Khamis, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at The University of Maryland. She is an expert on Arab and Muslim media and the former head of the Mass Communication and Information Science Department in Qatar University. Dr. Khamis holds a Ph.D. in Mass Media and Cultural Studies from the University of Manchester in England. She is the co-author of the book: "Islam Dot Com: Contemporary Islamic Discourses in Cyberspace", Palgrave Macmillan, New York, 2009. She also authored chapters in the books: "Women and Media in the Middle East: Power through Self-Expression", I.B. Tauris, London, 2004, and "New Media and the New Middle East", Palgrave Macmillan, New York, 2007. She has several publications in both international and regional academic journals and conferences in both English and Arabic. She is the recipient of a number of prestigious academic and professional awards.

This event is cosponsored by the Women Studies' Program at the Rockville campus. The event is free and open to the public. Join us and share this information with your students and the community.
