The Office of Information Technology and the MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) Program have partnered to sponsor a free IT conference for middle school girls on May 12, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Germantown Campus High Technology Science Center. The event, Girls Changing the World through Information Technology, was developed to address the alarming shortage of women entering STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.
Middle school girls will hear an inspiring keynote speaker and will participate in several hands-on workshops developed and facilitated by MESA+ ambassadors and MC students that include website development, ALICE, and SCRATCH computer programming. Conference participants will also have the opportunity to interact and network with Montgomery College students.
Parents can register their middle school students online at http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/ITCFG2012/
If you would like to volunteer at the event or for further information, please contact Lisa Carvallo at 240-567-4141.
