MC Germantown to Host Global Conflict and Peacebuilding Seminar Oct 12-15 for Faculty. Register Now to Attend

From October 12-15, 2013 (with an optional welcome reception on October 11), Montgomery College will host a professional development seminar to provide faculty members in the region and across the country with the opportunity to learn from each other, to develop specific curricular projects and activities, and to discover the wealth of government and NGO resources available in the DC metropolitan area. Participants in the seminar must commit to attending all four days, with optional participation in the opening event on October 11. This is a cohort workshop model, so active participation for the duration of the workshop is essential. During the four-day seminar, participants will: a) receive training and information conducted by local resources, such as the American Red Cross's International Humanitarian Law education program, b) participate in pedagogical workshops and discussions conducted by a variety of groups, including the Montgomery College Peace and Justice Studies Community, c) develop a tangible project that can be used upon return to the participant's home institution, and d) attend a meeting with representatives from government agencies (including the U.S. Institute of Peace), international groups and organizations (such as the Organization of American States), and NGOs in Washington, DC. The seminar is open to faculty members currently teaching at community colleges. We encourage and invite faculty members from a wide variety of disciplines to attend this workshop. Participants attending the workshop must be dedicated to applying what they have learned to specific projects and curricula improvements when they return to their home campuses. Registration for the conference costs $180. Participants will receive a copy of Peacebuilding in Community Colleges: A Teaching Resource edited by David J. Smith and published by the United States Institute of Peace Press. Please see the attached registration form for further details. Contact information for questions: David J.
