Representatives from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) are coming to the College to share information on two of their STEM-specific scholarships: MARC U*STAR and Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 4 from 1-3 p.m. in the Mannakee Central Services Building, Room 115 (Rockville Campus).

The UMBC MARC U*STAR Program is an undergraduate scholarship opportunity with the goal of increasing the number of students from underrepresented groups who pursue PhD degrees and careers in biomedical research or mathematics.

MARC U*STAR Program Highlights:
* Nearly full fall and spring tuition at UMBC plus mandatory fees
* A generous stipend to be used to help defray the cost of room and board

To apply, students must meet the following criteria:
* Have a 3.2 GPA each semester and a cumulative 3.2 GPA
* Plan to pursue a PhD and a career in biomedical or behavioral research or mathematics
* Are citizens, noncitizen nationals, or permanent residents of the United States

The application deadline is mid-February.

The Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars Program is for high achieving students who have a passion for STEM disciplines and a strong desire to teach.

Sherman STEM Teacher Scholars Program Highlights:
* Scholarships of up to $10,000 per academic year are awarded
* When scholars graduate and enter the classroom, alumni and community support continue through the first few years of teaching
* Application deadline: mid-March
