Raptors Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep Against Prince George's CC & Burlington CC

On Saturday, the nationally ranked Raptors baseball team played a conference doubleheader against the Owls of Prince George's Community College. In the first game of the afternoon MC freshman, Brandon Humbertson pitched the entire game, striking out 5 batters and giving up only 3 hits. MC won the first game 6-0. In the second game of the doubleheader, MC freshman Gus Gill pitched the entire game, striking out 7 batters and only allowing 2 hits. First year second baseman, Antonio Pino got on base twice and scored both times and Raptors Sophomore, Nick Ponafala, got one hit in this game and drove in 2 runs. The Raptors won by a score of 5-1.

The next day, the MC baseball team hosted Burlington County College (NJ) for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader. Burlington County College took an early 4-2 lead after 4 innings. A home run from Nick Kuczarski, in the bottom of the 5th ignited an 8 run inning. Tyler Coleman, Jeremy Ponafala, Geoff Stone, and Sean Whalen each drove in a run for Montgomery College to complete the comeback and win the first game 10-4. In the second game of the doubleheader Raptors freshman, Tyler Coleman hit 4 for 4, hit two doubles and scored in the 3rd inning. The raptors jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 3rd inning. The starter for MC, Andrew McWilliams, pitched a shutout until the fifth inning, when Burlington scored 4 runs. At the top of the 6th inning Coach Rascher put in freshman, Antonio Pino from the bullpen to close out the game. Pino threw 3 strikeouts and allowed 1 hit. The Raptors won the game 6-4, completing their weekend sweep. The Raptors baseball team improves to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. #GoRaptors
