At MC Books & More, Tabasum Khan, a general studies major, echoed what many students were feeling as classes began Monday morning, "I'm just a little nervous because it is my first day."
That nervous excitement could be felt on each of the three campuses as new students found their classrooms and returning students embarked on a new semester. Returning student Orel Bonilla is looking forward to his sociology class. "I love interacting with people, the study of people--I like that idea," he says.
One of the highlights of the first day was the launch of a new inter-campus shuttle. Nursing student Djimadoum Djimasngar led the way as the very first rider from Rockville to Takoma Park. This pilot program provides dedicated bus service between the two campuses. (For more information about the shuttle, see: http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/EDU/Plain.aspx?id=65107).
Not far from the shuttle stop on the Rockville Campus, Vice President and Provost Judy Ackerman, was helping out students at the campus information booth. She hopes "students and faculty and staff have a great semester; they're able to do all the things they want to do with their classes and students are highly successful and find all the special services and attention they need."
Victor Joya, a returning student studying criminal justice, had some good ideas for how to achieve that success.
"Work hard, stay focused and study for those exams," Joya said.
