<b>Spectrum Lecture: A Localization App: Imaging Proteins That Contribute to Cancer so That We Can Learn to Stop Them in Their Tracks</b>

A free lecture will be given by Dr. Thomas Turbyville of the National Cancer Institute on March 4 at 4:30 p.m. on the Germantown Campus (BE 151/152).

Cancer is a disease caused in part by communication pathways that have gone awry. When you think of problems in human society that are caused by miscommunication, you have a pretty good idea of the kinds of miscommunication that happen in cancer cells, including bad directions, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, things not being turned on or off, and so on. To understand this poor communication, we use advanced optical microcopy techniques to study the interactions and location of signaling proteins in cancer cells.

This presentation will provide some background on optical microscopy (including super-resolution and single molecule techniques), and the application of this technology to the study of cancer. Our goal is to uncover new lines of attack on the problem of cancer.
