Echoes and Reflections Holocaust Education Program for Teachers and Community College Faculty, June 19
The Paul Peck Humanities Institute at Montgomery College (MC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) invite you to a day-long teacher training on the Echoes and Reflections comprehensive Holocaust education program on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the College's Rockville Campus. The program begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m. Our seminar offers participants:
  • a comprehensive introduction to the content and pedagogy of the Echoes and Reflections curriculum, including modeling active and collaborative learning;
  • their own copy of the revised Echoes and Reflections Teacher's Resource Guide;
  • encouragement to tackle complex and difficult subjects with your students;
  • a networking luncheon where participants will hear personal stories from local Holocaust survivors;
  • an introduction to the Portraits of Life: Holocaust Survivors of Montgomery County traveling exhibit program offered by the Paul Peck Humanities Institute; and
  • potential to earn professional development credit (MCPS and MC).
The Echoes and Reflections program has been designed for middle- and high-school faculty. Community college faculty who have attended in the past tell us that the training has been very valuable for their work, as well. The program is open to teachers from Montgomery County and other regional public school systems, Montgomery College and other regional community college faculty, and teachers from private schools in the DC metro region. Please share this information with your colleagues. Pre-Registration for the training is required. There is no fee for the workshop or luncheon, but your RSVP implies that you will attend for the full length of the program. Please communicate your RSVP to our coordinator by June 12, 2015: Professor Ken Jassie ken.jassie@montgomerycollege.edu (240) 567-5245 For disability-related accommodations, please contact Ken at least 2 or more weeks before the event to allow sufficient time to make necessary arrangements. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Paul Peck Humanities Institute at Montgomery College, with support from the Montgomery College Foundation. The Echoes and Reflections programming is offered by the Anti-Defamation League. They developed the course materials in collaboration with the University of Southern California's Shoah Foundation and Yad Vashem.
