Enactus Students Celebrate One Heart Project in Award Ceremony for Homeless Women
Students Audrey Awasom, Fiorella Rayme and Herwina Allyssa wanted to give back to the community. So the three Enactus students founded the One Heart Project to teach homeless women job readiness skills. On Wednesday, the project culminated with the awarding of certificates to 11 women who had completed the workshop series. The Office of Congressman Chris Van Hollen awarded the project a congressional citation. The One Heart Project student project is sponsored by Walmart. Awasom, Rayme and Allyssa wrote a grant proposal and secured the $1500 Women's Economic Empowerment grant themselves. Then, over a period of two months, the One Heart team conducted workshops at the Montgomery Avenue Women's Center on resumes, interviewing skills, managing a budget and more. Launch Workplaces donated space for the workshops and the English Department on the Germantown Campus helped to collect professional clothes for a dress for success workshop.
