Thank you for encouraging Montgomery College students to Speak Up about sexual violence and misconduct!

Background Information
Maryland House Bill 571, passed this summer, requires all higher education institutions in Maryland to conduct campus climate surveys. Climate surveys measure how well colleges and universities are meeting education and other requirements mandated by Title IX and the recently re-authorized Violence against Women Act.

MC's survey was piloted this fall, and it incorporates feedback from students, staff and faculty. The survey serves a dual purpose: in addition to gathering information, it is an educational tool that provides relevant definitions, as well as information about confidential and non-confidential, internal and external reporting and support resources.

The survey will be modified as needed and repeated every two years, in compliance with MD state law. Future surveys will include all employees of the College as well as students. This year, the information students provide will help us to better understand immediate challenges, shape new education programs, and improve our institutional response to sexual violence.
