The 2016 MD JUCO Presidents' Cup winners were announced at the annual MD JUCO meeting in Ocean City, Md. The Montgomery College Raptors won the trophy on the men's side, edging Harford CC, 41-38. The Presidents' Cup is awarded to a conference institution that accumulates the most points based on their finish in the regular season of the conference standings.
The MC Raptors men's basketball team tallied 13 points as they finished the season with a record of 11-3, tied for second in the conference.
The baseball team second in the conference with a 17-7 finish in the conference, earning 13 points, as the men's soccer team finished with a record of 9-2-1 to finish tied for second. They earned 12 points.
The men's track and field team followed up with two points to put Montgomery College in the top spot.
The highest point total is awarded to the first-place team depending on how many schools sponsor the sport in the MD JUCO.
This is the first President's Cup victory for the Raptors men's teams, but not for Montgomery College. When there were multiple sport teams at the three campuses, Montgomery College-Germantown won the cup in 2006-2007 when the conference awarded the trophy to only one school.
Since then, the conference has grown, and in 2010, MD JUCO started awarding two Presidents' Cups, one to the winner for the best women's program and one for the best men's program. Congratulations to the MC Raptors men's teams on winning this highly sought-after trophy.
MC Women Second in President's Cup
The Montgomery College women's teams finished second to Harford CC, 40 - 32.
The MC Raptors volleyball team tallied nine points as they finished the season with a record of 9-3, tied for third in the conference.
The women's basketball team finished fourth in the conference with a 7-5 finish in the conference, earning nine points, as the women's soccer team finished with a record of 5-2 to earn six points with a fourth place finish in the MD JUCO.
The softball team finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference to earn five points and the women's track and field team followed up with two points give Montgomery College a second place finish, beating out Howard CC and Hagerstown CC both with 31 points, for the President's Cup.
The highest point total is awarded to the first-place team depending on how many schools sponsor the sport in the MD JUCO. Montgomery College (then the Rockville Knights) won the Women's President's Cup back to back years in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
