In our first year as an ATD institution, Montgomery College has continued to engage in a number of student success endeavors that our ATD coaches, Dr. Karen Stout and Dr. Donna Jovanovich, acknowledged during their first visit on December 6-7 at the Rockville and Germantown campuses. While at MC, the coaches visited with faculty and staff from a number of areas, participated in campus conversations hosted by VPP's Latimer and Kelley, met with faculty and staff participating in the ATD OER grant initiative, observed a governance council meeting, and met with the collegewide deans. We are looking forward to their second visit, March 1-2, on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus, where they will meet with campus constituents, including Workforce Development and Continuing Education, and facilitate a workshop about the results of our Institutional Capacity Assessment Tool (ICAT).

As an ATD institution, it is important to gather data about our institutional capacities in order to lay the groundwork for developing equitable student outcomes. To accomplish this, we will redistribute the ICAT. This online assessment tool, developed by ATD, will help us measure our strengths and areas for improvement in the seven key dimensions outlined in the Institutional Capacity Framework. Last fall, a small group of constituents completed a portion of the ICAT based on our year one priorities: leadership & vision, teaching & learning, and equity. We found that leadership & vision was our greatest strength overall, with little distinction in results between different employee classifications. We are interested in engaging the broader College community in completing the ICAT across all seven capacities: teaching & learning, leadership & vision, equity, engagement & communication, strategy & planning, policies & procedures, and data & technology.

College employees are invited to take the ICAT Survey between February 3rd and 17th. To access the survey, please use this link:

To provide information to the College community on efforts related to increasing student success and improving equitable outcomes, an ATD website has been launched.
