On April 14, at 1:30 p.m. on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, CM 211, three Capitol Hill staffers will give a behind-the-scenes look of the U.S. budget, the role of the Congressional Budget Office, and how economics and politics come together to pass the federal budget and new legislation.
Luci Arveseth is a legislative assistant for Congressman Chris Stewart, who sits on the House Appropriations and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She oversees policy and appropriations decisions for the Congressman in the following areas: healthcare, international affairs, homeland security, agriculture, and education.
Stephanie Barello is an associate analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, where she assists in developing long-term budget projections of the United States. She also teaches economics at Montgomery College. She previously projected consumer spending at the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Dr. Marina Kutyavina is a labor economist working at the Congressional Budget Office. She studies retirement and Social Security issues, producing reports on these topics for policy makers and the public.
