The Confluence Translation Conference returns to the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus of Montgomery College on September 23, 2017!

The Confluence organizers seek proposals for presentations and workshops covering issues of interest to the translation and interpretation community. Proposals are due by midnight Friday, June 23. Please submit your proposal online at the Confluence website Proposers can expect to be informed about decisions by August 14.

Proposals for workshops, panels, or other presentations are to include requirements for room setup and technical needs, if any. Conference rooms will be equipped with a computer workstation, USB ports, CD player, internet access, and projection.

Confluence is a celebration of International Translation Day bringing together translators, interpreters, educators, and others interested in the field of translation, including its literary, practical, and philosophical dimensions. The conference offers interpretation and translation-focused workshops and presentations, and opportunities for discussion, networking, career development, and celebration.

The organizers plan to group the workshops and presentations on Saturday, September 23, 2017, according to four tracks:

1. Techniques, practices, and problem-solving in translation/interpretation

2. Business of translation/interpretation

3. Art of literary translation

4. Education in translation/interpretation

The conference will open with "Translatable," an annual Open Mic event on the evening of September 22 in celebration of International Translation Day, hosted by the DC Area Literary Translators Network (DC-ALT).

On Saturday, September 23, morning and afternoon conference sessions will feature a variety of workshops and presentations on translation, interpretation, and translation studies. The keynote address is tentatively scheduled to begin Saturday at noon. The day's schedule will offer opportunities for informal networking.
