The Montgomery College Foundation has announced that an unprecedented $300,000 is available this year from the Innovation Fund and Holy Cross Health Grants and has invited members of the College community to submit proposals.

The Innovation Fund provides funding for projects that foster educational excellence and advance inclusive learning and equitable student success. Created by President DeRionne Pollard and made possible this year through the generosity of her Carnegie Corporation Academic Leadership Award, the Innovation Fund has up to $200,000 in funding for faculty, staff, administrators, and students to plan and implement new and creative initiatives that specifically address student success, equity, and completion.

The Holy Cross Health grants support initiatives to enhance health care education and/or health care workforce development and training. Total funding available this year through the generosity of Holy Cross Health is $100,000. Areas of focus include but are not limited to nursing, life sciences, health, and technical fields. The funds can support scholarships, equipment, internships, and faculty development. Examples of projects include expansion of the nursing program enrollment, ICD-10 training and shared faculty/scholarship programs, and educational programs that assist students seeking hospital-related jobs.

The submission deadline for both the Innovation Fund and Holy Cross Health proposals is March 20, 2018.

Award winners will be notified at the end of April and are encouraged to attend the closing meeting on May 16, where they will be recognized by the foundation.

Please read below for important information specific to each program.

Innovation Fund Grants
The Innovation Fund seeks your best thinking and innovative strategies that will impact a broad range of students. Priority will be given to larger, scalable initiatives that focus on innovations leveraging expertise and perspectives across disciplines and units. Collaboration among faculty, staff, administrators, and/or students on these projects is essential.

Faculty, staff, administrators, and students are eligible to apply. Students desiring to participate will need to partner with a faculty or staff member to submit the application.

Additional information and access to the Innovation Fund Grants online application, as well as examples of 2017 winning applications, can be found at

If selected, projects may start during the summer or fall semester and must conclude by the end of the spring semester in May 2019.

Holy Cross Health Grants
The Holy Cross Health grants were established as part of the 2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provided for the expansion of the already robust partnership between Montgomery College and Holy Cross Health. The agreement was the cornerstone for the construction of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, the anchor resident partner in the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology at Montgomery College (PIC MC) on the Germantown Campus.

The MOU recognized the need to graduate more nurses and included support for the College's goal to double the number of nursing graduates and provide other important educational and job opportunities in multiple fields. The generosity and commitment of Holy Cross Health to these goals was reflected in the MOU through the establishment of a fund to support these initiatives.

Faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to submit proposals to use these funds for innovative activities and initiatives aligned with the mission set forth in the MOU.

Submission guidelines and the Holy Cross Health grant application are attached to this article. Questions about projects may be directed to:
