Men's Basketball Team Captures Second Straight NJCAA DIII Region XX Championship

The Montgomery College Raptors men's basketball team defeated Penn Highlands 87-61 to advance to finals and beat Prince George's CC 73-65 to capture the 2017-18 NJCAA DIII Region XX Title.

On Saturday, February 24, the MC Raptors entered the NJCAA DIII Regional tournament as the top-seeded team where they dominated the Western Pennsylvania Colligate Conference Champions, Penn Highland CC Black Bears in the semi-finals 87-61. MC had four players scored in double figures. Collin Turner led the way with 21 points followed by Chris Johnson who had a spectacular stat line with 15 points, ten rebounds, five assists and two steals and shot 50% from beyond the arch. Ramel Davidson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while teammate Afanna Offor finished with 10 points in the 26-point victory over Penn Highlands.

Semi-Finals Highlights:

On Sunday, February 25 the Raptors defeated the Prince George's CC Owls 73-65. Afanna Offor came off the bench to drop a game-high 23 points shooting 60% from the three-point line. Ramel Davidson adds 14 points, and Chris Johnson recorded 12 points, five rebounds and dished out five assists. Collin Turner added nine points while Eli Arnold tallied 7 points and Freddie Harris scored 6 points and pulled down nine rebounds to overthrow the Owls 73-65.

The Raptors took care of business in the second half, coming back from a 3-point halftime deficient, to outscore the Owls 47-36 to claim the 2017-18 NJCAA DIII Region XX Title.

Afanna Offor was named tournament Most Valuable Player and teammates Collin Turner and Ramel Davison were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Finals Highlights:

With this win, the Raptors men's basketball team claims the back-to-back NJCAA Region XX DIII Championship Titles and will host the NJCAA Division III men's Basketball District Championship Tournament. The Raptors will play Sandhills CC in the semi-final game on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm on the Rockville Campus in the main gym.
