Five past Montgomery College students will be honored at the College's biennial Alumni Awards celebration April 21 on the Rockville Campus. The awards are hosted by the Montgomery College Alumni Association.

Two graduates will receive the Milton F. Clogg Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award, the College's highest honor recognizing former students.

*James G. Muir III '75 is vice president of Hughes Network Systems, LLC. He has held a variety of management positions supporting Hughes's domestic and international locations. He helped start the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce Montgomery College Scholarship Committee. He is vice chair of the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology at Montgomery College (PIC MC).

*Paola Moya '05 is founder and chief executive officer of Moya Design Partners, where she oversees the studio's operations, strategic planning and executive responsibilities, playing an active role in the design and evolution of each project. She led a previous firm's expansion into new architectural markets, diversified the firm's portfolio, oversaw operations and elevated its profile--winning some of the most influential and renowned projects in the region.

A separate honor, the "Rising Star" Young Alumni Recognition Award, will be conferred on Christian Barrera '08, Special Assistant for Health Policy to the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, District of Columbia.

Two alumni will be inducted into the Montgomery College Athletic Hall of Fame.

*Gene Thomas '89 was named NJCAA All-American and All-Region 20 in both football and baseball, as well as first team All-Coastal Conference in football. After further two-sport play at Maryland, he went on to play for the Chicago Bears, the Minnesota Vikings, and the San Francisco Giants' AAA affiliate.

*Melissa Weithman '08 captained the women's basketball team to the national championship tournament in her sophomore year, leading the country in scoring with 24 points a game, and was named first-team NJCAA All-American. She later returned to MC as an assistant coach.

Ticketing for the April 21 event at the Theatre Arts building will open in March. Further information is available through the College's Alumni Office.
