MC Raptors Softball Split First Matchup of the Season Against Rappahannock CC

The Raptors softball team, led by newly appointed head coach Jen Edwards, split their first doubleheader of the season at Rappahannock Community College taking the first game 9-1 and dropping the second game 18-10.

Raptors freshman, Alexandra Iacino went five for eight hitting for the cycle on the day with a home run, a double and a single in the first game and adding a triple in the second game. Iacino tallied three runs and four RBIs in the team first two games of the season. Mary Puig and Samantha Amaya each hit a double in game one and combined for five hits and four runs while Puig recorded 3 RBIs in a doubleheader against Rappahannock CC.

The Raptors pitcher, Abbey Kitchelt started game one and picked up her first win pitching a complete six-inning game allowing only one earned run, struck out eight batters with no walks. In game two Kitchelt came in as the relief pitcher for five innings and tilled just five hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and walked one batter. The freshman pitcher had great first two games recorded an ERA of 1.91 with 15 strikeouts and only one walk in 11 innings pitched.

Talking about her first trip with the team, Coach Edwards said she is "super proud of her team and is very excited to coach them this year." She added that she is "looking forward to accomplishing the goals that the team and (her) set at the beginning of pre-season workouts."

The Raptors softball team next four games are at home as they host a Garrett College for a doubleheader in the team's home opener on Friday, March 9th at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. With a short break MC starts the spring break week with a doubleheader on Monday, March 12th against Middlesex County College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the Rockville campus.
