Proposed Meta Major Model Available for Review

Category: Need to Know

Published: 2018-04-23 00:00:01.000

Meta Majors group individual degrees under larger areas of interest (think about the way four-year institutions often organize themselves, under individual yet specialized "colleges of"). They are a way to provide students with a clearer path for choosing a major and pursuing a career, for enrolling and being successful at the College, and for building connections with other students with similar interests.

A group of faculty and staff have been working on proposing a model for the past semester. Three models were developed; the included draft model combines the best of each into a single model. The group will be spending the next month gathering feedback on this model. Multiple opportunities are scheduled to allow the college community to discuss the process, the proposed structure, and how the College will use meta majors. These dates/times include:

Wednesday, April 25, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., TP/SS, ST301
Thursday, April 26, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Germantown, BE162
Monday, April 30, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Rockville, SC151

Please refer to the site for additional information and copies of all four meta major models:
