The Office of Facilities & Public Safety will kickoff major planning projects with senior leadership on August 16. These projects will evaluate existing space allocations in terms of projected need and other criteria at the Germantown and Rockville campuses to determine the best and highest use of space which will become available with the opening in 2019 of the Student Affairs and Science Building on the Germantown Campus and the New Student Services Center on the Rockville Campus.

The Germantown Campus project will follow the best practices for integrated planning to primarily backfill portions of the High Technology and Science Center (HT). Space in this building will become available when employees move into the new Student Affairs and Science Center (SA) next year. Campus Planner Kerry Norberg has been assigned to manage this project.

The Rockville Campus project will follow the best practices for integrated planning to backfill Campus Center (CC), Counseling and Advising Building (CB), portions of the Humanities Building (HB), the former math and science learning center in the ground floor of Macklin Tower (MT), and South Campus Instruction Building (SB). Space in these buildings will become available when employees move into the new Student Services Center next year. Please note that the existing Student Services Building will be demolished under the terms of the construction contract for the new building. The site will be landscaped to complete the "Green Mall" for student enjoyment. Campus Planner Jamie Karn has been assigned to manage this project.

The scope of services for both projects will include a space survey of all buildings to document exactly where folks sit and evaluation of their space, a Project Initiation Meeting (PIM), interviews of staff at all levels to inform development of programming, determination of new academic affairs and student affairs programs in the pipeline, test fits, cost estimates to alter, remodel, renovate, etc., ranking of projects, phasing of projects, etc. The goal is to have a transparent and inclusive process to perform this "vacancy master plan" so that it is fair and equitable and results in the highest and best use for the Campus and the College. This information will inform a budget request.

The Office of Facilities & Public Safety sincerely appreciates your participation in these planning projects. Please direct your questions to the appropriate Campus Planner, Kerry Norberg for Germantown Campus and Jamie Karn for Rockville Campus.

P.S. A similar project will be initiated later for the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus to reassign space vacated when employees move into the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building in 3+ years.
