The Service-Learning Program recently completed a collaborative mural project at the John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (JLG-RICA)(

MCPS students enrolled at JLG-RICA selected the figures and quotes, which the Service-Learning Program turned into simple murals for the school hallways. Students from Professor Rachel Bonaparte's Small Group Communications class, as well as staff from the Office of Community Engagement, volunteered in the four day project. The mural project is part of a long-term effort to support school beautification and student engagement at JLG-RICA.

JLG-RICA is a unique community-based treatment and special educational facility, managed by Montgomery County Public Schools and the Maryland Department of Health, serving students with severe emotional disabilities. This is the second project that the Service-Learning Program has hosted with RICA. This summer, MC students and staff from Student Life and Community Engagement hosted a workshop series on College and Career Readiness with MCPS students in the residential program.
