The Montgomery College Foundation announced that up to $144,000 is available in FY20 from the Innovation Fund and Holy Cross Health grants and invited members of the College community to submit proposals.

The submission deadline for both is March 19, 2019.

The theme for this year's Innovation Fund grants is Fostering Equity and Inclusion: Designing Initiatives that Advance Connections, Engagement, Completion, and Student Success. Created by President DeRionne Pollard and made possible through the generosity of Montgomery College Foundation donors, the Innovation Fund has $44,000 for new and creative initiatives specifically addressing the success, equity, and completion of part-time and first-time students. It also seeks proposals on student success initiatives tied to the College's completion and transfer goals.

The Holy Cross Health Grants support initiatives to enhance health care education and/or health care workforce development and training. Total funding available through the generosity of Holy Cross Health is up to$100,000. Areas of focus include but are not limited to nursing, life sciences, health, and technical fields. The funds can support scholarships, equipment, internships, and faculty development. Examples of projects include expansion of the nursing program enrollment, ICD-10 training and shared faculty/scholarship programs, and educational programs that assist students seeking hospital-related jobs.

Please read below for important information specific to each program.

Innovation Fund Grants
The Innovation Fund seeks your best thinking and innovative strategies that will impact a broad range of students. Priority will be given to larger, scalable initiatives that focus on innovations leveraging expertise and perspectives across disciplines and units.

Faculty, staff, administrators and students are eligible to submit proposals. Collaboration among faculty, staff, administrators and/or students on these projects is encouraged. Students desiring to participate are required to partner with a faculty or staff member to submit the application.

Additional information and access to the Innovation Fund grants online application, as well as examples of 2018 winning applications, can be found here.

Award winners will be notified at the end of April 2019 and will be recognized at the closing meeting in May. If selected, projects may start during the summer or fall semester and must conclude by the end of the spring semester in May 2020.

Holy Cross Health Grants
The Holy Cross Health Grants were established as part of the 2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provided for the expansion of the already robust partnership between Montgomery College and Holy Cross Health. The agreement was the cornerstone for the construction of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, the anchor resident partner in the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology at Montgomery College (PIC MC) on the Germantown campus.

The MOU also recognized the need to graduate more nurses and included support for the College's goal to double the number of nursing graduates and provide other important educational and job opportunities in multiple fields. The generosity and commitment of Holy Cross Health to these goals was reflected in the MOU through the establishment of a fund to support these initiatives.

Faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to submit proposals to use these funds for innovative activities and initiatives aligned with the mission set forth in the MOU.

Access to the submission guidelines and application can be found here. They are also attached to this article.
