There is one more week left in the 40 Days of Kindness Challenge. Our world is nearly full so let's use these last couple of days to overfill it and spill out into the universe. Be encouraged as you read a few of the most recent kindnesses that have been shared with us.

I am a COMM 108 adjunct (Toby Rabbin) who is delighted with what my students have been doing. For the small-group project in my classes, I asked the students to do an act of kindness and then present it to the class. Here are the first five of 12 presentations:

* Made and distributed 50 "positivity goody bags" to random students all over the Rockville Campus. The bags were filled with candy and tied with a positive statement such as, "You are special to someone."
* Handmade holiday cards to send to children who will be spending the holidays in the hospital.
* Made and distributed 38 hand written thank-you cards and "thank-you goody bags" to facilities staff, food-service personnel, and security guards on the Rockville Campus. These bags were filled with candy and hand sewn hand warmers made with rice.
* Hosted a lemonade-and-cookies party for at-risk youth at a local church.
* Using social media, collected blankets and winter jackets from friends to give to the homeless. When distributing those items to people in Franklin Square in D.C., the group also gave out hot chocolate, hot dogs, and doughnuts.

I donated a toy for a gift drive for a resident of the Fisher House Foundation's "home away from home" at Naval Support Activity, Bethesda.

Found a cell phone in the ladies room, turned it into Lost and Found, and left a note about it on the bathroom mirror... .it was claimed later by the owner!

Spoke a few encouraging "hang in there, it gets better" words to a mom with a tired toddler in a store.

Hugged a friend that is going through a relationship breakup.

Welcomed a new person that just moved here.

I was leaving the Germantown Campus on my way to Rockville. I passed an inter-campus shuttle stop and checked to see if the student who was there was going to Rockville and if so, did he want a ride...thus saving him time.

Submit your kindness online at or stop by any building* on the Germantown Campus, write your kind act on a paper person and put it in the box.
