MC staffer Laurie Williams (Health Sciences) shared a presentation at the Haitian Studies Association annual conference this past fall entitled "Across the Border, Across the Ocean: Exploring cultural identity through narrative and visual autoethnography." The presentation examined using autoethnography, a qualitative research tool based on personal experience, to better understand one's cultural identity.

The conference's theme was "Haitian Studies at the Crossroads: Integrating the Humanities, Arts, Religions, Technology, and Sciences" and featured scholars and students from across the globe who gathered in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for the 30th anniversary of this event. Along with various presentations from a diversity of disciplines, the conference also featured an Emerging Scholars session and Haitian-American novelist Edwidge Danticat as keynote speaker.
