Welcome back to work and Happy New Year, MC community. Have you had some time over the December break to rethink a challenging workplace issue that you are ready to address in 2019? If your answer to this question is yes, and you would like some support in resolving the matter at hand, please feel free to reach out to MC's Office of the Ombuds for confidential, neutral, informal, and independent assistance. No issue is too big or small or too new or old to bring to the Office of the Ombuds. In addition, this office was created to provide services to all MC employees -- at any campus, in any role, and at any level of the organization.

Some recent workplace issues that have been brought to the MC Ombuds include:

*Friction or conflict among co-workers (including colleagues, supervisor and supervisees)
*Concerns of unfairness in decision-making and treatment (e.g., regarding hiring, promotion, evaluation, resource allocation, expectations, change management, policies, and opportunities)
*Poor, unproductive team dynamics
*Lack of civility or respect or trust
*Issues with communication (e.g., frequency, methods, email, word choices, transparency)
*Concerns about leadership style and skills
*Ethical concerns
*Questions about job responsibilities and role

Do any of these challenges sound familiar to you? Would you like some confidential help moving through your conflict? The ombuds, Julie Weber, can be reached at 240-567-6188, or at: For more information about the ombuds, check out the ombuds webpage at

Let us make 2019 a year of confronting conflict and resolving the issues to improve productivity and general happiness at work!
