If you have visited the Sarah Silberman Gallery in the Rockville Campus Art Building lately, you have seen the intriguing exhibition on display there, However-Because. This collection of ceramic pieces and other works by Professor Sara Parent-Ramos is grounded in the view that both words--however and because--define and restrict creative possibilities. The artist's works open a space beyond these words for "the creation of community" and enable us to "examine the multiple forms of communities that sustain life."

On Monday, February 11, from 2-3 p.m., gallery visitors can enter the space beyond however and because and create community through a "Spontaneous Poetry" Workshop led by Marianne Szlyk, professor of English. In addition to writing poems in response to the art exhibition, workshop participants can contribute to the artist's collaborative sculpture.

Students, faculty, staff, and of course novice and expert poets are welcome. Bring pens, pencils, paper, journals, and laptops. We look forward to seeing you there!

Place: Sarah Silberman Gallery, Rockville Campus Art Building
Date: Monday, Febuary 11, 2019
