Global Open Ed Week Features Video of the UN SDG Open Pedagogy Student Showcase

Category: MC Events

Published: 2019-03-04 04:09:50.587

Institutions around the world celebrate Open Ed Week by showing how they raise awareness of free and open sharing in education. So how is Montgomery College celebrating Open Ed Week this week? One of many ways is by showing you how our students did in the inaugural United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) Open Pedagogy Student Showcase on February 26, 2019.

Nearly 100 family, friends, and MC colleagues heard 16 students talk about how they engaged in the community to transform the world through their open pedagogy coursework. Student testimonials suggest that these assignments had a powerful impact on these students. This student showcase stemmed from a fellowship in which 15 faculty from 12 disciplines created open pedagogy assignments (with Creative Commons licenses) that were deployed in Fall 2018 in 16 different courses. More than 570 students were enrolled in these courses.

This innovative fellowship aimed at improving global justice through the UN SDG framework has received international attention in just a short period of time, including highlights at OpenCon2018 at the United Nations Headquarters, a partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Canada, and a possible collaboration with a university in Ethiopia. If you missed the student showcase, you can find the video link here:

If you're interested in learning more about the faculty fellowship, you can find more information here: A call for applications for the Summer 2019 faculty fellowship will be announced shortly.
