Dear Faculty, Staff, and Visitors

I want to provide you with a construction update for the new Student Services Center. Phase six of construction is set to begin on Monday, March 11. During this phase of development, parking lot four will become part of the construction zone. We are placing temporary fencing around the entire footprint of the Student Service construction site. The new work zone footprint will eliminate short-term parking located in lot four and alter delivery truck routes that provide service to Campus Center.

A two-lane roadway will be located between the construction site and North Garage, providing access to the Campus Center loading dock. Delivery only signage will mark the entry point of this restricted area. Access to Campus Center loading dock will be limited to food service deliveries, bookstore deliveries, refuge service, and emergency vehicles only. This access road will only support two-lane traffic and provide enough room for small trucks to complete a turnabout. Departments utilizing this area should coordinate with vendors on delivery time, truck size, and possible delays during peak times.

During construction, pedestrian access will remain open along the West side of the parking garage. For safety, orange barricades along with signage will be in place to outline clear walking pathways. Crosswalk buttons that will activate flashing amber lights have been installed at the intersection to aid pedestrians crossing the roadway. See the attached map for details.

Phase six scope of work is expected to be completed by July 28. To help guide pedestrian traffic around the construction site, I have included the action plan map. The map features the Student Service construction fencing outlined in red, delivery access to Campus center loading dock in orange, green pedestrian pathways around the construction area, and location of traffic control buttons.

The Rockville Campus is under an aggressive state of improvements. We ask all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to be aware of the surrounding construction and follow all construction signage. This communication intends to keep you informed and provide the maximum amount of time for planning and preparation. Feel free to contact Rockville Facilities Help Desk for additional information,, or 240-567-5073 M-F 8 am - 5 pm.

The project team appreciates your patience, understanding, and cooperation to help maintain a safe environment during construction until this significant campus improvement is complete.
