This award is developed to recognize students, faculty, and staff who have demonstrated exemplary accomplishments in advancing equity, inclusion and diversity. These individuals serve as leaders through their contributions in making Montgomery College and/or their local community more inclusive by creating an environment where all individuals are valued and respected.

Each recipient will be recognized and announced by the president of Montgomery College at the Equity Summit, on April 30, 2019. A total of eight awards will be given: one Full Time faculty, one Part Time faculty, two Staff and four students, one from each campus including WD&CE.

Criteria (one or more of the following):

*Demonstrates work to promote social justice, equity, inclusion and diversity across the College as an advocate, activist, teacher, or learner
*Facilitates opportunities to learn and bring people from different backgrounds in the College together
*Participates, develops, and promotes programs or events that support equity awareness and intercultural engagement efforts
*Demonstrates a high level of commitment to equity in service, teaching, and scholarship
*Understands and demonstrates how equity and diversity are integral to the mission and values of Montgomery College
*Displays commitment to valuing equity and inclusion above and beyond assigned job duties
*Serves as an advocate for the interests of under-represented populations
*Effectively implements an aspect of the Equity and Inclusion Master Plan (effective for 2020 and future awards only)

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled at the College on a full or part-time basis and full-time and part-time faculty and staff must be currently employed by the College.

AWARDS
For 2018-2019, nominees will be recognized at the Equity Summit, scheduled on April 30, 2019 in a showing of a video montage of the nominees. The final candidates will be awarded at the Spring Closing meeting. Student awardees will receive their awards at the Equity Summit.

SELECTION COMMITTEE
Nominations for 2018-2019 will be reviewed by a subgroup from the President's Advisory Committee on Equity and Inclusion. For future years, the nominations will be reviewed by Ad Hoc Committee comprised of members selected from each governance council.


Nomination Packets
Students, faculty, staff, or administrators may make nominations that include the following information:

* Name and role at the College
* How the nominee embraces the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion and meets one or more of the criteria (no longer than 3 pages)
* At least two letters of support (recommendation)


All nomination packets should be submitted electronically to the Office of Equity and Inclusion no later than Friday March 29, 2019.

Montgomery College is indeed fortunate to have a wealth of dedicated and extraordinary employees and students deserving of this recognition. Thank you for your continued dedication and service to the College.

We encourage you to nominate an employee you work with or a student who embodies the characteristics of equity and inclusion in their performance and service and who is well-deserving of this special recognition. The operational definitions guiding these awards are listed below.

This prestigious inaugural award will be given annually and the awardees' name will appear on a prominently displayed plaque in the Board of Trustees Gallery in the Central Services building. The awardees will also receive individual awards.
