The Montgomery College Library's Collection Development Committee (CDC) is undertaking a project to find efficiencies in the library's e-resources budget. The main reason for this project is to ensure we are being good stewards of our funding. If a particular e-resource is seeing little use or if we subscribe to other, similar databases in our collection, we could likely spend the funds for that e-resource elsewhere to better support our students.

The CDC undertook a rigorous process to identify databases that could be eliminated with little to no impact on our students. They considered a number of factors when making the decisions for each resource, including:

*Usage: Statistics on how much each database is being used and the cost-per-use.
*Importance: Determined if each resource is critical to any discipline and if canceling would undermine that discipline's ability to educate students or affect accreditation.
*Uniqueness of Content: Determined if the library offers similar content from another source.
*Audience: Likely number of students and employees affected by cancellation.

Through this analysis, the CDC identified 23 for de-selection from our current collection of 189 databases. Access to these databases will lapse at different times in the coming months. Attached, please find the full list of databases that were identified and the date when access to each will lapse.

The library is open to feedback on this list. If you have any concerns about any of the resources slated for cancellation, please contact CDC chair Elizabeth Schlackman at, no later than Wednesday, March 27. Elizabeth, or any MC librarian, is also happy to help anyone identify alternative resources for any of the databases on the list.
