Denim Day supports a movement to acknowledge that what a victim wears is irrelevant. Denim Day originated in Italy when a man was NOT convicted of rape because a young woman was wearing tight jeans. This ruling by the Italian Supreme Court was the trigger for protest through Denim Day. This rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

At MC, on this day (4/24/19), we wear jeans to make a statement about sexual violence. We wear jeans on this day with a purpose to support victims of sexual violence. We wear jeans to draw attention to the fact that justice is not served when victims are judged by their attire.

Share your Denim Day show of support and stand against sexual violence on social media. #DenimDayatMC #denimday #SAAM2019
