Greetings, MC Community!

We invite you to become a Summer RISE Career Experience Host/Mentor to support high school student learning as they explore careers they may wish to pursue and to benefit by exposure to their energy, enthusiasm, creativity and innovative ideas.

Summer R.I.S.E. is a program led by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in partnership with businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits that provides rising MCPS high school juniors and seniors with enriching, summer career-learning experiences. Summer R.I.S.E. is a three-week, 60-hour program for rising MCPS juniors and seniors. Students participate 20 hours per week in a career-based learning opportunity from July 8 - July 26, 2019.

Summer RISE is committed to providing real-life educational and professional experiences to the ambitious and talented youth of Montgomery County. Your engagement will support our amazing youth by influencing the trajectory of their pathways and impacting their academic and professional development. Staff and offices can share a student in order to make it more manageable for your schedule and to provide the students more career learning exposure. Each host/mentor will teach students about your office at Montgomery College and how it functions which will help students learn about careers within the organization. The experience exposes students to career field options and provides students with advice from adults in careers they may want to consider. Students will learn professional skills that can be transferred to multiple employment environments. MCPS may be able to also match hosts/mentors with students who speak another language!

Calling all departments to consider Hosting a high school student this summer for a career development experience at Montgomery College!

Summer RISE experiences show students what they need to do to be "career-ready." Constructive feedback from supportive host supervisors bolsters student self-confidence and empowers them to take initiative. Summer RISE provides students with professional adult mentors who invite students into their worksites so that students can learn about professions in our local area.

MCPS fully supports organizations by providing an orientation session on program expectations and meaningfully engaging youth in the workplace. During the orientation session, hosts/Mentors will be provided guidance for creating a framework that each employer can adapt to create a unique career-based learning experience for its student(s). An overview of how students are prepared for their experience, as well as tips on how to work with high school youth, will also be provided. Host/Mentor Orientation Session information will be announced shortly.

Offices need to obtain approval from their administrator in order to act as an intern supervisor. Please review the information and Resources (below) Please contact enas.elhanafi@montgomerycollege.edu or 240-863-1708, if you have questions or would like to participate in this program at the Program.
