Please join us for "The Quest for Full Participation: A Community Engaged Teaching and Learning (CELT) Summit" on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Central Services (CT) Building, Board of Trustees Gallery, # S108.

Summit Cosponsors: Integrative Studies and High Impact Practices Committee, the MC Office of Community Engagement, Student Life's Service-Learning Program and the Paul Peck Humanities Institute.

Background: Across the country, the need for colleges and universities to embrace our crucial mission to build our communities' capacity for full economic and democratic participation continues. Montgomery College is uniquely positioned within one of the most diverse communities in the nation, home to a majority of immigrants or first-generation Americans, next to the nation's political center. The opportunities for democratic participation to support the economic and social goals of students abound.

Yet barriers persist to participation in opportunities like service-learning, community-engaged internships, and other hands-on, civic-minded learning that have been shown to develop this democratic participation. While Montgomery College offers many of these opportunities, too many students are unable or unaware of how to participate. This summit seeks to bring together a core group of community engaged practitioners, decision makers, stakeholders, and community partners for an afternoon of round table discussions, student showcases, and reflection. Our question? How can we build a future of full participation for MC students in the economic, social, and civic institutions that shape their lives?
