Some of you may remember Jerome Quenum '16, a top-notch student in our engineering department. Mr. Quenum, who arrived in the United States from Benin, West Africa in 2013, quickly learned English before pursuing his associate's degree in engineering. His outstanding academic performance enabled him to serve as a tutor in Rockville's Math/Science Center. Approaching graduation from MC, he was tapped as the Rockville Board of Trustees Scholar for 2016.

After graduation, Mr. Quenum transferred to the University of Maryland, where he pursued his degree in electrical engineering from the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

We are proud to announce that this spring, he not only received his bachelor's degree, but also was awarded the University Medal, which recognizes the University of Maryland's most outstanding graduate of the year. "The University Medal is awarded to the undergraduate who best personifies academic distinction, extraordinary character, and extracurricular contributions to the University and the larger public." A letter from University President Wallace D. Loh states, "Your successes on and off campus testify to your integrity, thoughtfulness, and pursuit of excellence in all that you undertake." This fall, Mr. Quenum will begin his doctoral studies in electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

We thoroughly concur with President Loh and add our hearty "congratulations" to Jerome Quenum for his accomplishments. We are also delighted that Mr. Quenum began his engineering studies here at Montgomery College--where a curriculum aligned with the Clark School's curriculum, along with opportunities to explore new developments in engineering and contribute to engineering projects, supports our students' academic and career success!
