Working with diverse students and colleagues at MC goes more smoothly when using intercultural knowledge and sensitivity, cross-cultural skills and mutual respect. Join Tapestry Institute, a learning community for practicing skills, such as: listening from the heart, genuine curiosity and inquiry, adaptive behaviors and self-reflection. In each required class (plus optional electives) -- Tuesdays (and one Friday) from September 2019 through April 2020 - cohort members explore personal and national heritage and socialization to gain insight into how upbringing influences style, values and expectations, yet can lead to assumptions or lack of awareness, which are obstacles to "radical inclusion." Cohort members increase the ability to form great work teams and to provide superior service for student success.

Tapestry's exemplary facilitators bring diverse expertise and will have participants: saying "ouch," checking perceptions, creating a welcoming environment, engaging in dialogue, appreciating diverse historical narratives, and understanding globalization. The Institute concludes with brief presentations of self-directed learning projects.

or more information, contact Laura White, Training and Development Specialist, ELITE, at 240-567-4297. Use MC LEARNS' cohort programs to obtain an application form. Each full-day class is 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and half-day classes are 9 a.m.-noon. All classes are held at Mannakee, the Center for Training Excellence, 900 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

Application Deadline: September 13, 2019
