The Food Of Love: Songs, Dances, And Fancies For Shakespeare

Friday, March 6, 2020, 8 p.m.

The Baltimore Consort has delighted audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and earned their CDs a place on the Billboard Top Ten list. Their arrangements of early music from England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Spain speak to the heart and mind. Recently, the Baltimore Consort explored the extraordinary repertory from the Iberian Peninsula in a program entitled Cancionero: Early Music from Spain. They have held residences at the Walters Art Gallery and the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore and the Piccolla Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. They have performed on syndicated radio programs far and wide, such as Performance Today, St. Paul Sunday, Millennium of Music, Harmonia, and Onstage (CBC). The Baltimore Consort, dubbed a "rambunctious sextet" by the Washington Post, are known for their lively renditions of Renaissance tunes and present a brand new program featuring their core repertory--music of the Elizabethan era--with songs and consort music from the Shakespeare plays. Ethereal soprano Danielle Svonavec performs some of the greatest hits from the Bard's songbook, including "It Was a Lover and his Lass," "Where the Bee Sucks," "Full Fathom Five," and "The Willow Song," and the BC instrumentalists play sparkling arrangements of dances and consort music related to the plays, with their "exquisite consort" of instruments--lute, cittern, viols, and flute.
