Join us at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Student Showcase on Tuesday, February 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in SW 301 Rockville. Hear students from Montgomery College and Kwantlen Polytechnic University (British Columbia, Canada) talk about how they engaged in the community to achieve social justice through their open pedagogy coursework and experiential learning environment. This student showcase stemmed from an international faculty fellowship from Summer 2019 that centered around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This group of 13 faculty fellows from 11 disciplines and two institutions created interdisciplinary renewable assignments, which have a Creative Commons license. These assignments were deployed in Fall 2019 in 19 different courses and 28 sections across the two institutions. Through the fellowship, more than 700 students in the U.S. and Canada participated in this groundbreaking and transformative work. In just a short period of time, this work has received international attention, including highlights at OpenCon2018 at the United Nations Headquarters and interests in future international partnerships. Montgomery College is fully committed to social justice and innovation through its focus on open pedagogy and community engagement.
