The Department of English and Reading is pleased to announce that Professor William Martin, the Montgomery College Minority Faculty Intern (McMFI), has been accepted into The Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Doctorate of Philosophy in English fall 2020 program. Professor Martin explains, "I don't think the PhD program at Harvard would have considered me had I not been awarded this internship at Montgomery College." Professor Martin continued, "My friends at Georgetown thought I was crazy for taking classes and doing an internship, but I knew McMFI would be a great experience, and I was right." Professor Martin is only the second intern in the McMFI program here at Montgomery College. McMFI began last year with Professor Jermaine Jones as the inaugural intern. In the program, Professors Jones and Martin have taught two composition courses each semester; worked with English and Reading faculty mentors, Dr. John Wang and Professor Jarvis Slacks; observed numerous online and face to face classes; presented at local conferences and department meetings; and worked with program director Dr. Elizabeth Benton and Dean of English and Reading, Dr. Rodney Redmond.
