As such, students, faculty, and staff will travel to our Nation's Capital to visit two exhibits described below (a flier is attached): <ul><li>Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program 1942 - 1964 is an exhibit at the National Museum of American History (1400 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC) that uses photographs and audio excerpts from oral histories to examine the experiences of bracero workers and their families. It provides insight into Mexican American history and a historical context today's debates on guest worker programs. (http://americanhistory.si.edu/) <li>Panamanian Passages is a bilingual (English/Spanish) exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's S. Dillon Ripley Center (1100 Jefferson Drive, SW, Washington, DC) that presents visitors with a multi-sensory journey illustrating Panama's human and natural history since the rise of the isthmus over 3 million years ago. This exhibition creates a new framework for understanding Panamanian history, beginning with the isthmus' ancient geological history and culminating with the expansion of a Panama Canal, and its challenges for the future. </ul> This co-curricular activity is aimed at supporting Montgomery College's mission of "Enriching Our Community" by providing students the opportunity to gain multicultural and historical knowledge while engaging with faculty, staff, and other students outside of the classroom. TRIP LOGISTICS: Any MC students, faculty, and staff that would like to join us can travel by car or Metro on their own to meet us in front of the National Museum of American History. However, we do ask that anyone interested in the visit, should RSVP by Wednesday, October 7 using the contact information below so we will have an accurate headcount. For people who would like to travel with a group, each campus will have a group leaving from area Metro stations; please review the Trip Itinerary below. It is recommended that you bring between $10-$15 to pay for Metro fare and/or to purchase any souvenirs while at the exhibits. You are also encouraged to bring a camera. TRIP ITINERARY: 9 - 9:15 a.m. - Meet near farecard machines at the Metro Stations. Germantown and Rockville Campuses will meet at the Shady Grove Metro Station, 1590 Somerville Drive, Rockville, MD 20855 and Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus will meet at the Takoma Park Metro Station, 327 Cedar Street, NW, Washington, DC 20012 9:30 a.m. - Groups depart from Metro stations 10:45 a.m. - Group meet in front of the National Museum of American History (1400 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC; Federal Triangle or Smithsonian Metro Stations on the Blue or Orange lines) 11 a.m. - Tour Exhibit #1: Bittersweet Harvest at the National Museum of American History Noon - Tour Exhibit #2: Panamanian Passages at the S.
