Playwright Don Nigro's three one-act plays, "Three Fantasies," will open Friday, October 30 at the studio theatre at Montgomery College's new Takoma Park/Silver Spring Performing Arts Center. Funny, scaring and haunting, the one-act plays are set in a dark medieval time with characters who feel love, isolation and loneliness. "Three Fantasies" will run through November 22, 2009.
"The Woodman the Goblins" is the story of a lonely woodcutter who finds three eggs in the middle of the dark forest. In "Fair Rosamund and Her Murderer," Rosamund is mistress to Henry II of England whose jealous queen sends a murderer to kill Rosamund. The final one-act play, "Dr. Faustus," has Dr. Faustus conjuring up the devil-a young, beautiful and very elusive woman-and becoming quickly obsessed.
Nigro has written more than 200 plays, including two that have been nominated for the National Repertory Theatre Foundation's National Play Award. His plays have been performed all over the United States and Canada, and in London and Budapest. The play "Ravenscroft" was adapted into the film "The Manor."
"Three Fantasies" is directed by Perry T. Schwartz, with set design by Richard Montgomery, costume design by Ellen Mansueto, lighting design by Chris Campenella, sound design by David Crandall, and music composed by John Milosich and Don Nigro.
