scholars.jpgThe Montgomery Scholars program was featured in the September 2009 edition of The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine for its success with Latino students. The Montgomery Scholars program strives to recruit an academically talented and highly diverse community of students, who reflect the rich diversity of backgrounds within the Montgomery County population.

Since the program's inception, Latinos have made up approximately 17 percent of the program's students. These students have since attained the program's highest completion and retention rates. A total of 94 percent of the Latino students have completed the program, have transferred, and have graduated or are on track to graduate from a four-year college or university within 2-3 years of their transfer date.

Among the program's honors was being selected as a semifinalist in Excelencia in Education's Examples of Excelencia! Awards, in the associate's degree category. Excelencia in Education, a nonprofit, chose the program in 2007 for supporting achievement among Latino students.
