Spoken-Word Poet Michelle Nelson to Perform at Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, November 17

 Please join us for<b> a special performance by spoken-word artist Michelle, "Love the Poet" Nelson, at the Theatre Two on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus of Montgomery College on Tuesday, November 17 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.</B>
A native of Columbia, Maryland, Michelle has electrified audiences over the past ten years, whether performing live on stage, on radio, on CD or on DVD. She has performed at college campuses around the nation, and the Paul Peck Humanities Institute and the Montgomery College Arts Institute, in collaboration with the Maryland Humanities Council, are especially excited to bring her to Montgomery College!

In addition, Michelle is offering <b>a Master Class in Room 301 in the Charlene R. Nunley Student Services Center at 2 p.m.,</B> where she will explore the connections between the Civil Rights Movement and spoken word poetry with students. <b>Reservations for this master class are strongly recommended.</b> To make reservations for the master class, send an email to: esther.schwartz-mckinzie@montgomerycollege.edu.
Spoken-word poetry has its roots in the Civil Rights movement and uses the human voice to add layers of meaning to narratives designed to inflect and promote social commentary. This event is an extension of the Maryland Humanities Council's presentation, "Music of the Movement, The Impact of Music on the Civil Rights Movement," also Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Performing Arts Center.
