While there are many benefits to this change, you will be required to make some updates to ensure your students continue to have seamless access to library e-resources used in your classes.</p>
<p><b>Why is the library switching to a new access management platform?</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Easier authentication: MC students and employees will now use their institution credentials (the same credentials you use to access MyMC) to access e-resources from off campus.</li>
<li>Better security.</li>
<li>Changing technology: our previous authentication system is becoming obsolete as vendors and browsers evolve.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>How do I log in to library e-resources?</b></p>
<p>When you are on campus, there is no need to log in to library e-resources. When you are off campus, you will be prompted to log in with the same MyMC credentials you use to access your College email or MyMC.</p>
<p><b>What updates do I need to make?</b></p>
<p>If you have saved links to library e-resources (e.g., in a syllabus, an assignment, browser bookmarks, etc.) you will need to update those links.</p>
<p>To update links to library e-resources:</p>
<ol>
<li>Remove the old proxy server URL prefix (https://montgomerycollege.edu/idm.oclc.org/login?url=) from the link, if present.<ol>
<li>For example, the link "https://montgomerycollege.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.proquest.com/newspapers/chatbots-may-hallucinate-more-often-than-many/docview/2886447825/se-2?accountid=39773" becomes "https://www.proquest.com/newspapers/chatbots-may-hallucinate-more-often-than-many/docview/2886447825/se-2?accountid=39773."</li>
<li>Paste the link you modified in step 1 into our <a href="https://go.openathens.net/generate/montgomerycollege.edu/82193323">link generator tool</a> to create an updated link.<ol>
<li>For example, pasting the modified link above into the link generator tool produces this URL, which you can now use to link to the resource: "https://go.openathens.net/redirector/montgomerycollege.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.proquest.com%2Fnewspapers%2Fchatbots-may-hallucinate-more-often-than-many%2Fdocview%2F2886447825%2Fse-2%3Faccountid%3D39773."</li>
</ol></li>
</ol></li>
</ol>
<p>You have until June 30, 2026 to update your links to library e-resources. After June 30, any links that haven't been updated will cease to work from off-campus.</p>
<p>There are two exceptions:</p>
<ol>
<li>If you've linked to library e-resources in Blackboard, you do not need to update those links. Links in Blackboard will be updated automatically by June 30 and will continue to function in the meantime.</li>
<li>If the link to the library e-resource doesn't begin with the proxy prefix (https://montgomerycollege.edu/idm.oclc.org/login?url=), you do not need to update those links.</li>
</ol>
<p><b>How can I get more information or help?</b></p>
<p>For more details on these changes and how to properly link to library e-resources, please visit our <a href="https://library.montgomerycollege.edu/faculty-support/using-permanent-links.html">Link to Library E-Resources webpage</a>. Details below along with a link for ticket information:</p>
<p>Beloved <i>New York Times </i>bestselling author Lisa See draws on the vibrancy and turmoil of post-Civil War Los Angeles to tell the story of three Chinese women who managed to survive and, eventually, thrive, despite all odds. In 1870, three Chinese women arrive in the small, dusty, and violent pueblo of Los Angeles. Dove, the bound-footed daughter of an imperial scholar, is entrancing and innocent. These characteristics should bring her great rewards, beginning with her arranged marriage to a much older merchant. Petal, the big-footed daughter of peasants, has grown up hungry and with dirt between her toes. In a moment of desperation, Petal's father sells her to buy money for rice seed, and she is loaded onto a ship to the Gold Mountain--America--where she is once again sold. Moon is married to a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. She is educated, speaks fluent English, and has been endowed with a face of great beauty, yet her failed footbinding as a child has left her with a limp that lessens her value in the eyes of many. Each woman has her own desires. Dove wants to love and be loved, Petal desires freedom, and Moon seeks justice. Together they face a larger society that wishes them not one ounce of good will. Anti-Chinese sentiment is strong in Los Angeles, and this eventually leads to the Night of Horrors during which all three women are challenged in ways they could not have imagined. Brought together by hardship and heartbreak, they must use their bravery, endurance, and ability to "eat bitterness" to discover their voices, find freedom, and connect through solace and friendship. Together they are daughters of the sun and moon.</p>
<p><a href="https://withfriends.co/event/27906235/lisa_see_for_daughters_of_the_sun_and_moon" target="_blank" title="https://withfriends.co/event/27906235/lisa_see_for_daughters_of_the_sun_and_moon" data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="0">Click this link for tickets.</a></p></story_body><attached_files><attachmentcount>1</attachmentcount><attached_file><file><rawname>LisaSeeatMC.png</rawname><href>attach/15199904-f120-fe74-3949-f945b289d644/LisaSeeatMC.png</href></file><thumbnail><rawname>tn_0.png</rawname><href>attach/15199904-f120-fe74-3949-f945b289d644/tn_0.png</href></thumbnail></attached_file></attached_files><display_image><rawname>di_0.png</rawname><href>attach/15199904-f120-fe74-3949-f945b289d644/di_0.png</href></display_image><category_name>College News</category_name><featured_story>0</featured_story><show_display_picture>1</show_display_picture><display_order_in_category/>

These are just a few of the unique talents that help define part-time faculty member Nicole Porcaro.</p>
<p>She teaches English 101 and English 102 mainly at the Rockville campus. However, she also has taught at Germantown. Porcaro joined the College four years ago. Besides teaching undergraduate students, Porcaro also teaches at the College's Lifelong Learning Institute. She has developed and taught a number of courses such as 'Take Me Out to the Theatre: Baseball and Film' and 'A History of Jeopardy.'</p>
<p>Porcaro grew up in Clinton, New Jersey and moved to Maryland when she received a scholarship to attend college at the University of Maryland. She graduated from the University in 2007 with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Sociology. She has two master's degrees, one from Purdue University Global where she earned a Master's of Science in Education, Language, and Literacy for Secondary Grades. Her other degree is from Harvard University where she earned a Master's of Liberal Arts in English. Porcaro also is a Doctoral Candidate at Vanderbilt University. Her focus is Leadership and Learning in Organizations. She expects to complete her doctorate by July.</p>
<p>Porcaro is one of three part-time faculty members honored this year with a Shoenberg Fellowship.</p>
<p>"I will be expanding my Vanderbilt dissertation research on my partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health. I plan to use my research to create a unit in an English 102 course on indigenous people. The course will explore exploitation, anthropology, and history through a health focused lens," Porcaro explained.</p>
<p>She said the plan would be for students to read literature, conduct research, analyze sources, and write a capstone essay on a topic related to indigenous cultures and health.</p>
<p>"Students could use what they learn about indigenous health practices to compare and contrast with their respective cultures. This can help bridge gaps, increase tolerance, and open up rich discussions for a multi-cultural seminar or interdisciplinary panel discussion," Porcaro said.</p>
<p>The Shoenberg Fellowship is just one of the honors the College has bestowed on Porcaro. Last year, the College presented her with the 'Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and Advising.' She also received the Eric Grosse Memorial Fellowship and the COIL Fellowship in 2025.</p>
<p>Teaching is just one facet of Porcaro's life. She also runs her own tutoring business, 'No Anxiety Prep.' She launched her business in 2012.</p>
<p>"No Anxiety Prep focuses on independent, personalized educational consulting for secondary school admissions, college admissions, and graduate school admissions," Porcaro said.</p>
<p>She became interested in the tutoring field after a brief career in journalism. She started out working part-time for Kaplan, the renowned tutoring and test preparation service.</p>
<p>"I never dreamed it would go further than teaching a few night classes. However, I spent five years with Kaplan performing a variety of responsibilities," Porcaro said.</p>
<p>She said she was named Kaplan's Tutor of the Year in 2009. Porcaro shifted gears when she began her own company. She said 'No Anxiety Prep' has won numerous awards for its work. She has expanded her business into 25 states and 11 countries.</p>
<p>Porcaro said her interest in teaching and education began when she was a child.</p>
<p>"I would come home from school and play school. I made worksheets, did workbooks, and taught my stuffed animals. I took the SAT's when I was in sixth grade and thought they were fun. I loved the idea of getting smarter," Porcaro said.</p>
<p>Her students appreciate her passion for teaching. Porcaro said some of her favorite quotes from students include, "I never liked English, but you totally changed that for me." "I didn't even consider journalism as a career, but now I am."</p>
<p>However, she does face challenges in the classroom.</p>
<p>"It's hard to deal with unmotivated students, and they are the ones I try the hardest to motivate by showing them real-world applications of what we're learning," she said.</p>
<p>Porcaro loves her time at the College. "It is a place where professors can teach without fear of micromanagement while being encouraged to use their own unique personalities to connect with students, drive change, and advance professionally," she said.</p>
<p>During her spare time, Porcaro loves to travel, read, exercise, and play different sports.</p></story_body><attached_files><attachmentcount>1</attachmentcount><attached_file><file><rawname>NicolePorcaro.jpg</rawname><href>attach/e21792f3-6cee-3e74-897b-aef601206afd/NicolePorcaro.jpg</href></file><thumbnail><rawname>tn_0.jpg</rawname><href>attach/e21792f3-6cee-3e74-897b-aef601206afd/tn_0.jpg</href></thumbnail></attached_file></attached_files><display_image><rawname>di_0.jpg</rawname><href>attach/e21792f3-6cee-3e74-897b-aef601206afd/di_0.jpg</href></display_image><category_name>Employee News</category_name><featured_story>0</featured_story><show_display_picture>1</show_display_picture><display_order_in_category/>
