It was the central Virginia earthquake that we felt on our campuses on August 23, 2011. About one-third of the U.S. population could have felt this quake. Because of the geology in the eastern U.S., earthquakes tend to be felt over a much broader region than those in the west. Your source for what to do during an earthquake, or any emergency at Montgomery College, is our Emergency Procedures found on the College's Emergency Site (http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/emergency). If you go to that site now, you'll see that you should never evacuate a building while it is shaking (due to an earthquake or anything else). Instead, you should drop to the floor, preferably under a sturdy piece of furniture or against an interior wall away from windows, and hold that position until the shaking stops. "Drop, cover and hold on." Join us to practice this technique during The Great Southeast ShakeOut. At 10:18 a.m., on October 18, 2012, students, faculty, and staff of Montgomery College will join millions of others in the region's largest ever earthquake drill. The deadline for submission is May 26, 2026, and projects will conclude by May 31, 2027. The Innovation Fund has up to $40,000 for projects that demonstrate how they will enhance the student experience across various learning environments, aiming not just at academic success but also at contributing to a richer community fabric. Enhance the sense of connection among students, faculty, and the community, creating a pervasive sense of belonging. Implement innovative solutions to improve student retention and timely completion of their academic goals.Advance student access, completion, and post-completion success and address bold and innovative opportunities that align with our transformational aspirations Grants that promote collaboration and cross-functional teams will be given greater consideration. Sophomore hammer thrower and national qualifier Isaac Benavides capped off an impressive spring campaign with an 11th place finish in the Men's Hammer Throw. Benavides recorded marks of 50.70m (166-4) and 50.44m (165-6), competing against some of the top junior college athletes in the country. Throughout the season, Benavides consistently placed among the top competitors in the region, earning multiple first-place finishes and establishing himself as one of the top throwers in program history. Sophomore high jumper Kendall Wideman II also earned a national qualification after hitting the qualifying standard during the final regular season meet of the year. Wideman played a major role in the resurgence of Montgomery College Track & Field this season, helping elevate the program's visibility while setting the tone for future student-athletes joining the Raptors program.
