New-Orleans.jpgOver the Spring Break period from March 16 to March 20, the Montgomery College, SCA (Student Construction Association) sponsored a trip to New Orleans. The group consisted of four students from the Student Construction Association and three students from the Student Architecture Club. They were accompanied by Professor Peter McNally from Building Trades and Professor Mark Corfman from Construction Management, both under Dean Ed Roberts, Instructional Dean - Gudelsky Institute, and Applied Technologies. The group traveled to New Orleans, La., to help people still suffering from the horrific effects from hurricane Katrina.

The group worked with United Saints, an organization whose goal is to "Help residents who have suffered hurricane damage return to their homes, improve their quality of life and strengthen their communities." (http://www.unitedsaints.org/). United Saints was extremely happy to have the group from Montgomery College come down to help out, mainly due to their skills and knowledge of construction. By week's end several students and faculty were acting as team leaders on various projects and the teams were able to complete several important projects for the community in the time that they were working down there.

Everyone involved in the trip agreed it was a wonderful and worthwhile experience and several students are already planning a return trip over the summer. The student participants would like to give a special thanks to both faculty advisors who traveled along with them, as well as to the entire office of student life. Without their help the trip would not have been possible.
