"I consider myself a global historian, and I can say there is no subject in history that does not interest me," Broecking-Knowlton said. He fell in love with history as a child; however, he also loves to write. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College in Boston where he majored in writing, literature, and publishing. He earned his Master of Arts in History from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was a decorated student. As an undergraduate, he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and in his master's program he was Summa Cum Laude. During his time in graduate school, Broecking-Knowlton said his concentration was on military history and the connections between war and society. He is currently interested in how history and mythology intertwine. The New York native joined the College in the spring of 2024. He teaches several history classes in the Humanities Department. Some of the courses include World History in the Twentieth Century, World History from Antiquity to 1500, and World History from 1500 to present. He has taught on all three campuses. He became interested in teaching when he was in graduate school. "I was a graduate teaching assistant for one of the History and International Affairs faculty members. I ran discussion sections after the twice-weekly lectures. I came to realize that I love teaching, and when the opening at the College was brought to my attention, I leapt at the chance," Broecking-Knowlton explained. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and hopes he can instill in his students the passion he has for history. He said understanding history is critical for any society. "History is of crucial importance to the future of humanity. If we forget where we have been, if we do not pay attention to our past, then we will be doomed to commit the same mistakes again and again. History provides perspective. It informs the present and charts the course of the future. Understanding our collective human story is important for everyone," Broecking-Knowlton said. He said it is not enough for students to just read about history. They must be taught its significance. "Education is the great equalizer. By helping to provide students with a quality education, I can hopefully contribute to making the future a better place,' Broecking-Knowlton explained. He also views history as another way of storytelling. After all, people are bound together through their collective history. "History and fiction are two sides of the same coin. Both have characters and events. The difference is one happened and the other did not. I am, at heart, a storyteller, and being able to share the stories of our history, and the lessons they teach, is something I deeply enjoy," Broecking-Knowlton said. He said his biggest challenge in the classroom is deciding what to teach. That is because it is difficult to cover 500 years of history let alone 13,000 years during a single semester and go into detail about every event worth discussing. "Figuring out the most salient points of the periods covered is difficult especially when many historical events are interwoven with others," Broecking-Knowlton said. He hopes after a semester his students will be more enlightened about history and be better writers than when they walked into his classroom. "Becoming an effective writer is crucial for almost any job simply because it reinforces effective communication which we all need. As for the knowledge itself, we as a society need to remember where we have been. We need to remember our struggles, our triumphs, our wars, and our failures. That includes remembering where we have been so we can know where we need to go, as well as appreciate the present," Broecking-Knowlton explained. When the 28-year old is not teaching or learning more about history, he enjoys writing science fiction and fantasy books. He has written one novel so far, and he said he has more books in the works. He also enjoys gaming across multiple genres and forms. Broecking-Knowlton also said he enjoys drawing maps to accompany his writing. Beginning with the summer 2026 session, there is a new, easier way for students to register for classes. To register for summer 2026 classes, follow the instructions below: <ol> <li>Register for classes by logging in to MyMC, and navigating to the Register and Pay for Classes card. Click the Register Now link.</li> <li>From the Registration menu, click Register for Classes.</li> <li>On the Select a Term page, choose the Summer 2026 term, then click Continue.</li> <li>On the Register for Classes page, enter your search criteria and click Search or Advanced Search to view available classes.</li> </ol> Tip: Once the search results appear, click the course title, which is a hyperlink that opens the course details.
