2026 Prescription Drug Take-Back Days
Category: Public Safety
Published: Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Montgomery College will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day again this year. This campaign allows the public to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. We accept prescription, over-the-counter, and pet medications.
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor's supervision. Unused drugs that are flushed down the toilet contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment. Take-back programs are the best way to dispose of old prescription drugs. National Prescription Drug Takeback Day is held on Saturday, October 24; however, Montgomery College will hold our takeback events on Wednesday and Thursday of that week to maximize participation.
On Wednesday, October 21, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., you can drop off your items at the following locations:
- Central Services - Lobby area by the Public Safety desk.
- East County Education Center - Lobby area by the Public Safety desk.
On Thursday, October 22, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., you can drop off your items at the following locations:
- Germantown Campus - In front of the Bioscience Education Center (BE) near the main entrance. In case of inclement weather, go to the SA building, room 269, Public Safety.
- Rockville Campus - In front of the Student Services Building (SV) next to lot #4. In case of inclement weather, go to the SV building, room 122, Public Safety.
- Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus - In the lobby of the Student Services Building (ST).
If you can't attend our event, check with your local police department, as they maintain a drop box in their main lobby 24/7. You can also check with your local CVS or Walgreens locations.
